Ellie Simmonds, British starlet of the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 , wowed the crowd at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester at the end of May when she broke the world record in the S6 100m freestyle by two seconds. The 14-year-old’s time of 1:16.21 was a full two and a half seconds better than her previous best.
“It was a good swim but I was really surprised about the time. I didn’t think I could get a world record in that event”, she said after the race. “It’s not my favourite, I prefer the 400m free, so to break the world record in my second event and to take two seconds off my PB (personal best) is really good.”
Ellie is a fan of Maru Swimwear. She won her two Paralympic Gold Medals in Beijing in 2008 wearing a pair of Maru’s Techno Racer Pro Goggles and here she is pictured in a Maru MX1 competition/training suit, which is manufactured using the latest generation of chlorine proof fabric and is designed to fit like a second skin.
